What is Blind Hockey ?

Blind Hockey is an adaptive version of the sport of ice hockey for the blind and visually impaired. With little modifications from ice hockey, the sport, based on the equity model, allows all visually impaired athletes to play with their usable vision.

The Blind Hockey Puck

Added Sound

The Blind Hockey Puck is made of sheet metal, and filled with 8 ball bearings. Players use this sound to locate and track the puck.

Size Difference

The Blind Hockey Puck is over two times the size of a regular hockey puck. This enables a player to utilize their usable vision to locate and track the puck with greater ease.

Goalie Rules

Goal Size Difference

Blind Hockey nets are three feet tall, instead of four eet tall to keep the blind hockey puck lower to the ice.

You put…Who…in Net?

The Goaltending position is saved for those who are totally blind. Every other rule change in blind hockey is for goaltender safety.

Pass Whistle

Our only MAJOR rule adaptation: Offensive players must complete a pass before the puck can be shot on goal. This is intended to alert the goalie to utilize geolocation to track the puck.
